If you haven’t updated your hath since the
early 1990s, you maybe wasting thousands
of gallons of water each year. Faucets,
showerheads, and toilets are now far more
efficient and worth the re placement cost *
Federal regulations guarantee that
any toilet, showerhead, and hath faucet
purchased today qualifies as low-flow.
Toilets are restricted to 1.6 gallons per
flush; bath faucets and showerheads use
no more than 2.2 and 2.5 gallons per
minute. Manufacturers compete to beat
these limits, often with significantlvhigher
water savings; at least one toilet boasts a
fl ush that uses only .8 gallons.
Some overachievers—about 200 toilets
and 170bath faucets and aerators—are
recognized for efficiency and performance
by the U.S. Environmen tal Protection
Agency (EPA) with its WaterSense
designation. (Find product lists at

conservation, the EPA plans to apply the
WaterSense label to ultra-efficient newlv
